‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.’ Psalms 23:1-6 KJV
Last week as i was working, the song Hills and Valleys by Tauren Wells came on. As the song played the Holy Spirit took me on a journey. He reminded me that He is God in every stage of life. He was God in 1986 when I took my first breath, and He is God as I write to you here in 2020.
We all have been affected by the events of 2020 in one way or another. We all have had a “God, what is going on?” moment. Psalm 23 shows us that we will have valleys and continue to have valleys as long as we are on this earth. It also shows us that we are not alone in the valleys. God is with you! We just don’t always see it or feel it, but he promises you that he is always with you.
We are going to have to walk this valley, God is not going to swoop in and save us from it. That may sound harsh but where would you be if your parents saved you and kept you from every valley and every storm? Yes, God does pull us out of trouble when we need to be, however he does allow the situations of life to test us and that is ultimately for our good.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
