17 For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. - 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NLT

Hello family, pain and discomfort. These are things we would rather not deal with. If we could we would love to put it all in a box and toss it away. But pain is necessary, discomfort is needed to move us forward in God and life.

When i encounter a painful or discomforting situation my first reaction is to get away from the source of it as quickly as possible. If i cannot get away from the source my next move is to block it out or suppress the pain i am feeling. We live in a world that is focused on finding ways to eliminate pain and discomfort. This world is focused on being as comfortable and pain free as possible.

This can be dangerous. How else do we know that there is something wrong. If you twisted your ankle but never felt pain then you would do even more damage because we won't  fell the pain from the damage letting us know there is something terribly wrong. God will allow us to be discomforted and challenged in our spiritual walk. We must not back down, but we press in and ask God to show us what is wrong and what does he need us to do.

Many lessons in life are learned not in the safety of books and the classroom but out on the battlefield. When we apply the basics we learned in the classroom. God will step us up another level without taking us back into the classroom. Every lesson will not be easy breezy as a matter of fact each lesson will be more and more challenging. They are designed to draw us to our heavenly father to get instruction from Him then go out into the field and apply it so we can gain experience.

We will get some scars and fail some test. We then learn from that experience and use it as a stepping stone to the next level. Pain and Discomfort are not our enemies, they are tools for our success!

Much Love & God Bless

What a great take on the matter! I believe you're right; pain and suffering can be tools to help us grow. We gain in understanding and compassion; we also gain in leaning closer to the Lord.

The pastor who spoke at church yesterday morning reminded us, too, that whatever we're going through, we still need to hold up our spiritual armor. He spoke a bit about his wife's suffering (she passed away with cancer a couple of years back) and told us that even when she was in misery with her disease, the devil would attack her with doubts and fears to give her spiritual struggles. He's just so cruel!
