Morning Coffee 11/19/14 Love Your Enemies!
As the Aramean army advanced toward him, Elisha prayed, “O lord , please make them blind.” So the lord struck them with blindness as Elisha had asked. Then Elisha went out and told them, “You have come the wrong way! This isn’t the right city! Follow me, and I will take you to the man you are looking for.” And he led them to the city of Samaria. As soon as they had entered Samaria, Elisha prayed, “O lord , now open their eyes and let them see.” So the lord opened their eyes, and they discovered that they were in the middle of Samaria. When the king of Israel saw them, he shouted to Elisha, “My father, should I kill them? Should I kill them?” “Of course not!” Elisha replied. “Do we kill prisoners of war? Give them food and drink and send them home again to their master.” So the king made a great feast for them and then sent them home to their master. After that, the Aramean raiders stayed away from the land of Israel. (2 Kings 6:18-23 NLT)
Talk about loving your enemies! My first course of action would have been to lay waste to the Aramean army. But here is a prime example of loving your enemies. Put your self in the shoes of the Aramean army. Your king has sent you off to destroy and kill Elisha and the Isrealites. But you are blinded and lead astray. When your eye are finally opened you are in the enemies hand no where near where you should be. You think your going to be killed but instead you treated to a feast and sent back home. I would not try and attack again.
“Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the lord . Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.” (Romans 12:19-21 NLT)
