Before we begin, If you are parents of teenagers, young adults, or preteens (at your discretion for the preteens) that are about to become teens please bring them and your spouse in on this devotion. In this day and age this is especially for them not just adults. So please find the time today to read this with them! Thank you!
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:13-16 NLT)
Hello family, the above scripture really describes that God did not just throw us together. We are not some random jumble of cells and atoms. God took His time to create each one of us. There is not one of us that is exactly alike, not even identical twins are exact. If you watch them closely you will see small differences.
When God made you He did not look at you and say “eew! She's ugly or I did a horrible job making Him!” No! We are Gods beautiful creation, created in His image (Read Genesis 1:26). Last time I checked God is not ugly! After you finish this devotion I want you to get up, find a mirror, and look at the wonderful beautiful creation reflected back at you!
Don’t listen to people (friends and family included) that say “you are ugly you need plastic surgery, you need makeup to cover up this blemish and that dark spot. Make up can enhance your looks, but you should not be so attached to it that you fear walking out the door without it on! We did not come into this world with it so it is not a need. If it is not a danger to your health don’t change it!
I don’t have a lot of facial hair and for the longest time I didn’t like that about myself. But that is the way God made me and I am fine with that. I am not rippling with muscle, I am very skinny. It’s not endangering my health so I'm fine with that, My chin wrinkles up when I close my mouth, it is a part of me I’ll keep it!
I am not against health and beauty tips, but if it takes you away from whom God created you to be, it is not good. If your genetics give you a slim build and doctors say there is nothing wrong. Rock your slim style. If you are thick and curvy and your weight is not endangering your health rock your curvy self! The media portrays an image of what they think beauty is; don’t look for that as the definition of beauty. Look at Psalm 139 and then look in the mirror and see the true beauty within.
Much Love & God Bless
