“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.” (1 Peter 2:2-3 NLT)
God called us to minister and pour life into those that are lost. We are to shine the light that Christ placed in us out to a dark world. But how can we shine Christ the light within us if we don’t continually fill our self with Christ?
Sometimes we get so caught up in ministering to others and being there for others, we forget to take time to allow God to minister to us. Your physical body needs rest, it needs food, and it needs water. If you neglect to give it the things it needs, it will break down and you will be of no good to anyone. It is the same with your spirit man; you need the word of God, and quiet time with the Lord. Even Jesus took time away from teaching the disciples and healing people. He took time to talk to his heavenly Father, and be fueled up for whatever work was ahead (see Mark 1:35 and Mark 6:30-32).
It is good to minister to others; it is good to be there for that brother or sister when they need you at 2 am. But what good are you to them if you are running on empty, how can you help them if you have not filled yourself with the spiritual milk that is the word of God. As you feed on that word you will become stronger and just as a baby graduates from formula to pureed food to solid food, so will you. God will take you deeper into His word and you will be able to take what He deposited in you and share it with others. Don’t forget to feed yourself!
Much Love & God Bless
